Swimming, boogie boarding and body surfing in the ocean are definitely super fun water activities you can do in Rehoboth Beach, but don’t forget that there are a lot of cool things to do ON the water as well as IN the water.
What could be more enjoyable than gliding along one of the many tranquil waterways found throughout Sussex County? Kayaking and canoeing may be relaxing, but they are also excellent forms of exercise – think upper body workout folks! Not to mention, paddling is the perfect way to get up close and personal with local wild and plant life – sneak up on a sunbathing turtle, listen to squawking heron, or just take in the lush scenery. Whether you go single or tandem, morning, afternoon or evening, you need nothing more than a desire to explore. We promise you’ll have no “egrets!”
What'SUP? Stand Up Paddle boarding, that’s what! Feeling a little more adventurous? Challenge yourself on a paddleboard. It’s an increasingly popular trend in fitness and another way to be active on the water. Standing on the board requires balance and core strength, but once you get beyond the first few wobbly minutes and get the hang of it, you won’t want to stop! Paddling on creeks and rivers is typically calm, but if you venture out on to the bay or ocean it could be quite a bit choppier. (Tip: pay attention to wind direction, wind speed and tides.) Some companies offer cool variations like SUP Yoga (yoga on top of a board) or Night SUP (paddling at night on lighted boards). No matter what SUP experience you partake in, you will surely have a SUPer time!
Local water sport companies will typically rent by the hour, day, or week. They also offer instruction as well as various tours ranging from eco tours to sunset or full moon paddles. And if you end of loving it, then they will help you pick out that special board or kayak to call your own!
