The 2nd Annual LUNG FORCE Walk, sponsored by the American Lung Association (ALA), is unlike any other charity event. The rain or shine event, which takes place this Saturday, November 14, starts at 9 a.m. at the Rehoboth Bandstand, and will take participants through a scenic 2.1-mile route around town. Celebrate the collective “power of breath” with a variety of inspirational songs and activities.
LUNG FORCE is the ALA’s national campaign to lead the fight against lung cancer and to rally for women’s lung health. Consider these staggering statistics: lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of women; every five minutes a woman in the U.S. learns she has lung cancer; the lung cancer death rate in women has more than doubled over the past 35 years. Additionally, females in Delaware are ranked at fourth highest in the nation in lung cancer deaths. In response to these facts, LUNG FORCE is working to change the perception of lung cancer, educate the public, and raise critical funds for research and early detection.
November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month so join the fight and honor our LUNG HEROES! There will be prizes, kids activities, and even a doggie costume contest! Canine participants are requested to dress in their best turquoise finery. The “top dog” will win a special grand prize.
Participation in the LUNG FORCE Walk is free, but participants are encouraged to raise funds. Every participant who raises at least $100 will receive a commemorative walk t-shirt. For more information, to register, or to donate, visit www.lungforce.org/walk.
