Saucy fun at the 2nd Annual Boooo-B-Que By the Sea

Alissa Rosenstein - Tuesday, October 18, 2016

Why did the skeleton go to the BBQ? For the spare ribs. OMG, I know, so bad, but if the joke fits, post it.

A “saucy” new Halloween season tradition began last year with Booo-B-Que By the Sea, a two-day family festival and barbeque cook-off competition featuring the east coast’s finest barbeque aficionados (pro and amateur) vying for over $10,000 in combined prize earnings and the title of Best BBQ Chef.

The event, hosted by DNREC’s Division of Parks & Recreation, begins Friday, October 21 at 4:00 p.m. at Delaware Seashore State Park (south inlet campground). Friday happenings include live music, a bonfire, trick or treating, a wing competition, and a guided bridge walk.

Come back on Saturday, October 22 for more family-friendly Halloween-inspired fun including a costume contest, pumpkin decorating, a bonfire, and story telling. The day kicks off at 9:00 a.m. with a unique 5k Run/Walk over the Indian River Bridge and along inlet pathways with the festival beginning at 11:00 a.m. Guests will enjoy live music, a beer garden, a raffle and auction, and of course, some mouthwatering BBQ (categories include ribs, chicken, pulled pork and brisket). In addition to the pro and amateur levels, there will be a “Kid’s Que” competition for younger BBQ chefs.

Admission is $5 per adult (children under 12 get in free with accompanying adult). Proceeds from the event will benefit the Delaware Children in Nature Endowment Fund, which affords opportunities for young people to participate in outdoor experiences.
