Over 125 artists and artisans from around the country will display and sell their fine art and fine crafts at the 43rd Annual Outdoor Art Show on August 6 & 7 and August 13 & 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m (Saturdays) and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m (Sundays). The event (open rain or shine) will take place at Rehoboth Art League’s 3.5-acre historic wooded grounds located in Henlopen Acres.

Begun in 1973 by the art community as a way to add new summer events, artists and artisans displayed their work along snow fences surrounding the property and invited the public. It was an immediate success and soon became the most anticipated area summer art event. While most of the artists will set up in booths, some will display their work along snow fences, paying homage to the show’s history. This is a juried event, so visitors are guaranteed to see some extraordinary work.

In addition to being an art show it’s a fun family-friendly event featuring food prepared by Nage and The Point, music, face-painting, historic tours, artist demonstrations, and art exhibits in the galleries. Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the campus and follow it up with a cool, refreshing glass of lemonade outside the Children’s Studio (for the little kids) or an ice cold beer at the Dogfish Head Biergarten (for the big kids).

Enter the raffle to win an original Michele Byrne painting. Michele, recognized for her figurative plein air work, has donated a 30” x 30” beach scene (valued at $3,700) to help raise funds to support RAL’s education and exhibition programs. Raffle tickets cost $5 per ticket or $20 for 5 tickets.

The entrance fee is $5 per adult per weekend; kids under 12 enter for free. The Jolly Trolley will provide shuttle service to the event from Kmart on Route 1 or Rehoboth Beach Elementary School on Stockley Avenue. Visit the website for complete event details or to purchase tickets.

Did you know that you could find (and make) incredible art while on vacation here in Rehoboth Beach? If you and the kids need a break from the beach, then visit the Rehoboth Art League (RAL) and unleash your creative talent. RAL offers summer camps for kids as well as a variety of classes for artists of all ages. RAL also offers open studios, exhibitions, and art events.

Founded in 1938, the Rehoboth Art League (RAL) is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to encouraging and preserving the arts in Southern Delaware. It is situated on over 3.5 acres of natural wooded landscape and beautiful gardens in the Henlopen Acres neighborhood. The Peter Marsh House (or Homestead), built in 1743, is recognized as an historic property in the National Register of Historic Properties. Stroll the grounds and you will find all sorts of little “art gems” tucked away in the garden, along the pathways, and out in the lawn. It’s truly a magical and inspiring place in which to wander and wonder.

RAL showcases different artists with rotating exhibits every 4 to 5 weeks. Currently running is the 43rd Annual Members Fine Craft Exhibit at the Corkran and Tubbs Galleries, which showcases a wide variety of fine arts that are unique, whimsical and functional; The Art of Memory Assemblage by Felicia Belair-Rigdon at the Ventures Gallery, showcasing intimate and imaginative memory boxes; Domestic Landscapes at the Homestead Gallery, a 13-week revolving juried members’ showcase featuring art representing distinct regional scenery.

The popular 67th Annual Cottage Tour of Art will be held on July 12-13. The homes on the two-day self-paced tour are located in Rehoboth Beach and present very different landscapes, and interior and architectural designs, ranging from historically significant to contemporary and eco-friendly. Some homes have an evolving history and many showcase memories and collections in creative ways. The $35 “ticket” is a commemorative program booklet with an image and description of each home on the tour. RAL is providing Jolly Trolley transportation from Rehoboth Elementary School for ticket holders. Shuttle service will begin at 9:45 a.m. daily.
